Sun Studios Goes Racing with the Camping World Truck Series
A sleek black, acoustic Sun Studio guitar will be awarded to the pole winner on NASCAR race days at Memphis Motorsports Park, starting this summer with the MemphisTravel.com 200 presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts this Saturday, June 27.
Just a few blocks from Beale Street in downtown Memphis, Sun Studio is the legendary ‘Birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ and the ‘Million Dollar Quartet’ – Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash.
“While we treasure our past and the vision that Sam Phillips had when he founded the Sun Records label in 1952, Sun Studio is still a living, breathing place, full of fans from all over the world, as well as world-touring artists that still make the pilgrimage here for live recording sessions,” said Sun Studio president John Schorr.
The iconic Sun Records label is laser engraved into the guitar, which will be awarded to the fastest qualifier, the “pole” winner, in two ceremonies on race day – at the NASCAR hauler immediately after qualifying Saturday afternoon, and again on stage in front of the fans during driver introductions Saturday evening.
“This pole award says ‘Memphis’ like the Elvis trophy in victory lane, and barbeque nachos at the trackside concession stands,” said Memphis Motorsports Park vice president and general manager Jason Rittenberry. “We’re honored to have Sun Studio and Sun Records join our ongoing effort to share Memphis with the NASCAR Nation.”
Qualifying for the MemphisTravel.com 200 presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts begins on Saturday, June 27, at 1:00 p.m. CT. NASCAR returns to Memphis with the Camping World Truck Series on June 26-27, and the Nationwide Series on Oct. 23-24. For tickets, click here or call us toll-free at 1-866-40-SPEED (407-7333).
