M3 Lucero Secret Show
With a little less than 24 hours notice, the Memphis Music Foundation pulled together a secret show featuring local Indie Rock/Country pioneers Lucero at Murphy’s Pub in Midtown Memphis.
BBC America World News was in town working on a feature segment about the future of Memphis music. Their experience began with a trip to the Stax Music Academy, a location rich with the history of artists such as Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding, and Booker T and the MG’s.
BBC then inquired about seeing a live performance from an emerging Memphis act. The Memphis Music Foundation decided to showcase some of the best talent the city has to offer in assembling a show with Universal Recording Artists Lucero, who just happened to be in town on a break before their next tour. Due to the time constraints and limited venue space, the event was promoted on the MMF Facebook page as a secret show with fairly obvious hints as to who the performing band would be. The Memphis Music fan base proved to be up to the challenge, as over 200 Lucero fans got the hint and succeeded in packing the Midtown bar for a once-in-a-lifetime 90 minute set.
A special thanks to Lucero and the staff at Murphy’s, and to everyone that showed up to support local music! If you haven’t already signed up as a fan of the Memphis Music Foundation on Facebook, make that a priority…unless you want to find yourself out of the loop again when the next MMF secret show presents itself.
