Lady Tremaine featured guest at LeMoyne Owen’s annual Sunday Celebration
Grammy, Dove and Stellar Award-winning Gospel Icon, Lady Tramaine Hawkins, will be the featured guest at the Tenth Annual LeMoyne-Owen College Recognition Sunday Celebration on Sunday (April 11), beginning at 3 p.m., at the Cannon Center downtown.
The Faith Community from throughout the Mid-South is urged to bring their congregations to this free event, although tickets are required in order to monitor attendance levels this event is open to the public. For ticket information, contact the Office of Institutional Advancement at 901-435-1527. This event is a fund-raiser for The LeMoyne-Owen College. The LeMoyne-Owen College is the only historically black college in the Memphis community. It is one of 39 member institutions in the United Negro College Fund. Because it is a private institution, the College does not receive federal or state funding. All funds are received from alumni gifts, private donations and student fees. More than 95 percent of LeMoyne-Owen students receive some form of financial aid.
During the event, pastors of churches, friends of the college, business representatives and alumni will present and pledge monetary gifts to the college. According to Roger Brown, interim vice president of Institutional Advancement, and also, director of Development and Special Events, the College raised about $50,000 during its 2009 Celebration event. Other performers will include students from The LeMoyne-Owen College’s Division of Fine Arts and Humanities such as the J.W. Whitaker Singers, the student poetry society, drama club, African Drumming Ensemble, Gospel Choir and LeMoyne-Owen College Concert Choir. For more information, contact Roger Brown at 901-435-1526.
