Robert Plant gives the credit to Memphis music

July 13, 2010

You probably already know that former Led Zeppelin front-man Robert Plant is in town this week, kicking off his tour with a concert tonight at The Orpheum. What you might not know is that soon Plant will have his own star on the theater’s Walk of Fame. During a special ceremony yesterday, Orpheum CEO Pat Halloran presented Plant with a plaque featuring a replica of the star, which will be in a new area of the walk slated to be under construction in the next few weeks.

In addition to the star, Plant also received a gift of thanks and recognition from the Blues Foundation. Following the presentations, Plant talked for a few minutes and took some questions from the group, but the focus of his comments was humility and respect for the legacy of Memphis music and the impact of Memphis musicians on his own career. He said that British musicians owe an immeasurable debt to Memphis music.
